Pieterpikzonen has been a trusted name in garden seeds since 1904. The company has remained family-owned, with the baton passed down through generations. While its roots trace back to the village of Andijk in North Holland, the company is now based in Luinjeberd, Friesland.
1904: De start van de Firma P. Pik
Pieter Pik besluit na jaren op het land in de gewassen gewerkt te hebben een eigen firma te starten. Hij start een handel in groentezaden. Pieterpik wordt geboren, maar toen nog onder de naam Firma P.Pik.
1904: Pieterpik is born
After years of working in the fields, Pieter Pik decides to start his own business, trading in vegetable seeds. The company Pieterpik is born, though initially under the name Firma P. Pik.
1920: Customer base grows
The customer base grows rapidly, and the premises in Andijk become too small. Pieter Pik moves to a larger location in Hoorn, expanding the business to include sales to growers and individuals through agents. The company opens its first store.
1936: France becomes key market
Pieter’s son, Jan Pik, joins the business, and trade expands across Europe, with France becoming a key market.
1962: An evolving market
The market evolves, and Pieterpik shifts its focus entirely to the amateur market and intermediaries. The company is one of the first to launch its own branded packaging under the name Gouden Ster. A unique innovation at the time was offering customers personalized packaging with custom name imprints. This is a precursor to today’s custom branding services.
1971: Continuous growth
As the business continues to grow, the Hoorn location can no longer accommodate its expansion. The company relocates to an old dairy factory in Luinjeberd, close to Heerenveen, an ideal site for its operations and further growth. With the move comes a new name: Pieterpikzonen bv.
1974: Flower seeds
Pieterpikzonen bv begins producing and selling flower seeds, adding a flower range to all its seed packaging series.
1985: Another expansion
The Luinjeberd site is expanded to include additional facilities for shipping, production, and storage.
1986: Jan Pik steps back
Jan Pik steps back from daily operations, handing the reins to his sons, Peter and Jac Pith. This year also marks a shift in seed packaging production. Pieterpik invests in machines for a high-capacity production. From now on packaging is made out of material on roll.
1996: New facilities are built
Expansion continues with new storage facilities and a state-of-the-art laboratory.
2001: Oranjeband Zaden
Pieterpikzonen acquires Oranjeband Zaden from fellow company Nunhems.
2003: Sister company Tuinplus relocates
Sister company Tuinplus relocates from Enkhuizen to the Luinjeberd site.
2009: New logistics center in Heerenveen
The new logistics center in Heerenveen is completed. From this 5000 m² facility, all shipments of packaged seeds and accessories for retailers are handled. Offices, storage, and production remain in Luinjeberd.
2016: Peter & Jac Pith step down
Peter and Jac Pith step down from their leadership roles. Bas Doorten and Erik van Dijk take over daily management.
2019: Expanding in Luinjeberd
Another expansion takes place in Luinjeberd, adding a showroom, a modern climate-controlled warehouse, and 1000 solar panels.
2021: Ivo Prins joins the team
Ivo Prins joins the leadership team, sharing responsibilities with Bas Doorten and Erik van Dijk.
2022: Expanding Tuinplus location
Opening of the logistics center in Heerenveen, providing expanded space for (climate-controlled) storage, order picking, and production.
2024: 120th anniversary
This milestone is being celebrated in a big way with a successful open day and a three day staff trip to Texel.
2025: One Pieterpik
Tuinplus, Pieterpikzonen, and Promo Seeds merge under one name: Pieterpik.
